Stephanie Williams, Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Libya and Head of Mission, launched the meeting of the Legal Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum at an online meeting on December 22 local time.

In his opening remarks, Williams said that this was the first meeting of the legal committee and marked the beginning of the pre-election “preparatory phase”.

“This is encouraging news in support of the national elections and has received great attention from the UN Support Mission in Libya and the international community,” Williams said.

Williams urged members of the Legal Committee and the Libyan parties to ” make every effort to move forward quickly and avoid staying on secondary issues that are ineffective and deliberately obstruct and delay the realization of the aspirations of the Libyan people”.
