Lebanon’s cabinet formation process stalls, Prime Minister-designate Hariri is questioned

by YCPress

December 19th according to local media sources, the Lebanese Free National Front issued a statement questioning the lack of uniformity and clarity of the criteria for Prime Minister-designate Hariri to enter the cabinet, which led to a slow process of cabinet formation, while stressing that breaking the national balance is unacceptable.

On the same day, Mahzumi, chairman of the Lebanese National Dialogue Party, said in an interview that Prime Minister-designate Hariri’s commitments to France and the United States and the two Shiite parties in the country are contradictory.

If the government is still formed according to the old method of sectarian distribution of ministerial seats, the country may lose the support of the international community and have difficulty in obtaining international assistance. The current difficulties in forming cabinets highlight the need to form a truly independent expert government.

On 22 October, Saad Hariri won the parliamentary vote and was subsequently authorized by the President to form a new cabinet.
