Lebanese President Michel Aoun delivered a National Day speech stressing the urgency of reform.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun delivered a speech on the 77th anniversary of the National Day on the 21st local time.

Aoun said that Lebanon is currently besieged by political, economic and administrative systemic corruption and bound by sectarian and social contradictions.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to implement reform, combat corruption, develop economy and production, and form an efficient and new government that can promote reform.

Aoun stressed that today’s international situation has profound changes and have a significant impact on Lebanon.

It is necessary to launch a national dialogue to discuss the changes in the situation in politics, security, defense and other fields.

In order to prevent the spread of the pandemic, Lebanon has cancelled all Independence Day (National Day) celebrations and reserved only wreaths for the tombs and monuments of the meritorious independence.

Lebanon ended the French Mandate and achieved national independence on November 22, 1943.
