Kyrgyzstan’s electoral institutions confirmed Zaparov’s election as president

Bishkek, January 20 The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan held a meeting on the 20th to confirm Zaparov’s election as president.

Kyrgyzstan held presidential elections on the 10th and held a referendum on the national polity.

According to the final election results announced by the Jizhong Election Commission on the 20th, Zaparov received 79.20% of the vote, and Madumarov, who ranked second, received 6.79% of the vote.

According to the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan, candidates can be elected president if they get more than half of the votes.

The Jizhong Election Commission accordingly confirmed that Zaparov was elected president.

On the same day, the Jizhong Election Commission also confirmed the results of the referendum, that is, 81.49% of voters support the presidential system, 10.91% support the parliamentary system, and 4.47% do not support both systems.

On October 4, 2020, Kyrgyzstan held parliamentary elections.

Several failed political parties expressed dissatisfaction with the preliminary election results, held protest rallies and clashed with the police.

The Jizhong Election Commission declared the results of the parliamentary election invalid on the 6th of the same month.

President DĂ©nbekov resigned on the 15th, and Prime Minister Zaparov took the presidency. On the 24th of the same month, the Jizhong Election Commission decided to hold a presidential election on January 10, 2021.

Kyrgyzstan held a referendum in June 2010 and adopted a new constitution, and the state system of government transitioned from a presidential system to a parliamentary system.
