Japan Kyodo News Agency reported that Fumio Kishida attended the meeting of the Party’s constitutional amendment headquarters held at the headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party on the 21st. In response to the revision of Article 9 of the Constitution and other projects, he claimed that “I believe it must be achieved as soon as possible (constitutional amendment) content”. According to the report, it is very rare for the current (LDP) Prime Minister to attend meetings in this department.

According to the report, Kishida claimed, “I hope to gather all the strength of the Liberal Democratic Party to realize the constitutional amendment. In order to achieve results, I hope to make great strides to achieve (constitutional amendment) headquarters.” In addition, in response to the constitutional amendment project advocated by the Liberal Democratic Party, such as Article 9 of Japan’s Constitution, Kishida declared: “This is a very close topic to the times, and I believe (these constitutional amendments) must be achieved as soon as possible.” The report added that senior Liberal Democratic Party officials such as Vice President Taro Aso and Secretary-General Toshinoshio and former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the meeting.

Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution clearly stipulates that “Japanese nationals sincerely seek international peace based on justice and order, and permanently abandon war, threat of force or use of force launched by state power as a means of resolving international disputes.” In order to achieve the previous project, the army, navy, air force and other war forces will not be maintained, and the country’s right to war will not be recognized. The Liberal Democratic Party put forward four proposals for constitutional amendment, including amending Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution and adding “emergency articles”.

In response to Japan’s constitutional amendment, Yu Zhigang, director of the Northeast Asia Research Institute of the Heilongjiang Academy of Social Sciences, said in an interview with the Global Times that if Japan wants to amend Article 9 of the Constitution and intends to expand Japan’s military strength, it must be vigilant about it. Japan should fully consider the feelings of neighboring countries, especially those that have suffered its aggression, and make careful judgments. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also stated China’s position many times, hoping that Japan will adhere to the road of peaceful development.
