Local media reported on the 25th that Kenyan health experts have issued warnings about the possibility of a large-scale outbreak of type 2 polio, especially after signs have begun to appear in the capital Nairobi and the port city of Mombasa .

According to a risk analysis by the local health department, about 11 counties are marked as high-risk areas for type 2 polio outbreaks. In addition to Nairobi and Mombasa, there are Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, and Wajir. Nine counties , including Marsabit, Kilifi, Turkana, Isiolo and Mandela .

Disease monitoring officials of the Ministry of Health said that in addition to polio, lack of vaccination will also put children at risk of other infectious diseases such as measles and tuberculosis.

Therefore, the Ministry will strengthen surveillance activities to prevent any possible outbreaks, and will continue to cooperate with like-minded agencies to carry out national vaccination campaigns to help improve children’s immunity to the virus.
