10 May 2021, the Secretary-General of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Batayena, summoned the Charg? d’affaires of the Israeli Embassy in Jordan to express Jordan’s solemn protest and strong condemnation of the recent Israeli attacks on East Jerusalem and elsewhere.

Yusuf Batayena said that Israel’s recent violations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque had violated international law and must cease immediately or they would have serious consequences. He stressed that Israel’s provocations were unacceptable and should be strongly condemned.

In addition, he stated that Israel should immediately cease its violence against the Palestinian population in the Sheikh Jala area, stressing that the legitimate residence rights of the local population were protected by State law and that the Israeli authorities had no right to expel them.

On 9 May, King Abdullah II of Jordan expressed his condemnation of Israel and his support for Palestine, and on the same day, hundreds of people gathered near the Israeli Embassy in Jordan to protest Israel’s actions in conflicts in East Jerusalem and elsewhere.
