Tokyo, December 13 Shiga Prefecture, Japan, announced on the 13th that a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak has occurred. The bird flu epidemic in Japan this winter has now expanded to 10 counties.

Shiga Prefecture announced on the 13th that a chicken farm in Higashiomi City has detected the H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, and relevant departments have begun to culminate about 10,000 chickens raised in this chicken farm.

Earlier, a chicken farm in Okayama Prefecture also started culling about 640,000 chickens on the 11th due to an avian flu epidemic. The outbreak in Okayama Prefecture on the 12th was determined to be caused by the H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus.

Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, reported an outbreak of avian influenza in a chicken farm in Japan on November 5. Since then, Fukuoka, Hyogo, Miyazaki and other places have successively experienced highly pathogenic avian influenza epidemics.
