February 20th According to a report by Kyodo News Agency of Japan, in addition to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant of Tokyo Electric Power Company in the accident, 18 nuclear reactors in Japan have been decided to be scrapped, and more than 160,000 tons of low-level radioactive nuclear waste are expected to be generated.

According to Japanese power companies, the expected generation of 163,84 million tons of nuclear waste is divided into three levels according to the radiation level, with 3,220 tons of higher “L1”, 29,34 tons of medium “L2” and 131,28 tons of lower “L3”.

L1 will be buried deeper than 70 meters, and L2 and L3 will be buried shallower ground.

However, only the L3 waste of the Donghai nuclear power plant has been identified for burial, which is located in the nuclear power plant area.

Units 1 and 2 of Hamaoka of the Central Power Company plan to start reactor demolition around 2023, which will also be the first in Japan.

Hamaoka Unit 1 has produced L3 waste, which is currently stored in the barrel of the plant.

Central Power said that “the reactor is in a long time, and it is possible to keep the waste while pushing for demolition” and will cooperate with other power companies to find suitable burial sites.

However, L1 waste will also be generated in future demolition, which is not easy to keep due to the high radiation level.

In addition, a report aggregated by the Japan Atomic Energy Society said that the reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant will produce up to 7.8 million tons of radioactive nuclear waste.
