January 10th – On the 10th local time, Japanese people participated in an ice water bath at Inari Shrine in Iron Gun Prefecture, Tokyo, and prayed for the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Reuters, on that day, the Japanese people who participated in the event were immersed in ice water in traditional costumes and masks.

Before the event began, they applauded and recited to “purify the soul” and pray that the coronavirus pandemic would end.

As the pandemic continues to spread, the number of participants in the event has decreased significantly this year, with only 12 participants, 9 of whom are men and 3 are women. At the beginning of 2020, the number of participants in the event exceeded 100.

Tokyo reported 1,494 new cases on the 10th.

According to the report, Japan has been trying to control the surge in COVID-19 cases and declared a limited one-month state of emergency in Tokyo and three neighboring prefectures on the 7th.
