April 16th, Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport announced that the Italian government had appointed 29 commissioners to start 57 major infrastructure projects. Infrastructure projects involving railways, roads, ports and water projects cost 82.7 billion euros, the statement said.

Enrique Giovanni, Italy’s minister of infrastructure and sustainable transport, said the focus of the current round of investment was on southern Italy and would hopefully narrow regional disparities in the country’s infrastructure. The projects are projected to create an average of more than 68,000 jobs a year over the next decade.
