April 9th local time, Israeli President Rivlin and Prime Minister Netanyahu issued separate articles expressing condolences on the death of Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince Philip, considered the closest member of the British royal family to Jews, reportedly made a historic visit to Israel in 1994. Prince Philip’s mother, Alice, the Greek princess, was known as “righteous man in the nations” for sheltering Jews during the Holocaust Jews.

Princess Alice died in England in 1963, and her body was relocated from Windsor Castle to a church on the Mount Olive in Jerusalem for burial in 1988.
