Ismail Sabri has been sworn in as Malaysia’s prime minister

On the afternoon of the August 21st, former Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Jakob of Malaysia was sworn in as Malaysia’s ninth Prime Minister at the National Palace.

Ismail Sabri is currently UMNO’s vice-chairman and also served as senior defence minister and deputy prime minister in the former Muhiddin government. Ismail Sabri has been coordinating outbreak prevention and control throughout Malaysia since the outbreak began.

Malaysia’s National Palace announced in a statement on the 20th, because Ismail Sabri won the support of more than half of the lower house of parliament, Supreme Head Abdullah decided to appoint him as the new prime minister.
