Tehran, February 3 Iranian President Rouhani said on the 3rd that he hoped that the new U.S. government would be aware of the harmful regional security of the U.S. military in West Asia and reflect on its policies.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency, Rouhani made the above statement when he met the visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
He said that last January, the United States attacked and killed Iranian general Suleimani and Muhandis, deputy commander of the Iraqi People’s Mobilization Organization, in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, which was the “most despicable” example of foreign interference in Iraq’s internal affairs and “state terrorism”.
It is hoped that the new U.S. government will be aware of the harmful regional security of the U.S. military in West Asia and reflect on its policies.
In a meeting with Hussein on the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif said that ending the presence of the U.S. military in West Asia would be the best response to the above-mentioned “terrorist acts”.
Hussein said that Iraq attaches importance to solidarity and cooperation with Iran in the field of counter-terrorism and is negotiating and taking measures to promote the withdrawal of foreign troops from its territory.
On January 3, 2020, the United States launched an air strike on Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, killing Suleimani, commander of the Al-Quds Brigade, a subsidiary of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, and Muhandis, deputy commander of the People’s Mobilization Organization, a Shiite militia in Iraq.
Subsequently, the Iraqi Council of Representatives passed a resolution calling for an end to the presence of foreign troops in Iraq.
