February 12th local time, the International Olympic Committee issued a statement saying that the International Olympic Committee had learned and respected that the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee had determined the new president in accordance with due process.
In a statement, IOC President Bach said that he fully respected the decision of Tokyo Organizing Committee President Yoshiro Mori to resign and understood the reasons.
The IOC thanks Yoshiro Mori for his outstanding contributions to the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games over the past few years.
Thanks to Yoshiro Mori’s efforts, Tokyo became the most well-prepared Olympic host city in history. The IOC will continue to work with its successors to host a safe Olympic Games in 2021.
John Coates, chairman of the Tokyo Olympic Games Coordinating Committee of the International Olympic Committee, also thanked Yoshiro Mori in a statement for his excellent work over the past eight years.
The International Olympic Committee said it would remain committed to hosting a safe and successful Tokyo Olympic Games as always.
