Jakarta, January 27 Indonesia’s National Disaster Relief Agency said on the 27th that the Murapi volcano in central Java, Indonesia erupted violently that day, erupting ashe columns up to about 3 kilometers.

At present, no casualties and property damage have been reported.

“Moor Murapi, which erupted since early January, is now in the overflow stage, with lava pouring out of the crater, accompanied by a large number of ash columns,” said Raditia Jadi, spokesman of the National Disaster Relief Agency, in a statement.

From 00:00 to 1400 hours on the 27th, the volcano erupted 36 times, and the ash ejected drifted southwest with the wind.

The statement said that a large amount of volcanic ash will fall on the towns around the volcano to form “volcanic ash rain”.

Local people should stay at home as much as possible, and take measures to protect wells and water sources from volcanic ash pollution.

The statement also said that the current alert level of Mount Merapi is level 3, second only to the highest level, and the surrounding area 5 kilometers from the crater is designated as a restricted area.

Mount Merapi is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia at an altitude of 2,968 meters.

The last violent eruption of the volcano was in 2010, killing more than 300 people.
