Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission
Jakarta, November 25th – Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo was arrested by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) on the evening of the 24th, either because of corruption cases involving the issuance of export licenses for lobster seedlings.
On the afternoon of the 25th, the official Antara News Agency quoted a briefing from KPK official Firli Bahuri to report that KPK personnel arrested Eddie at Terminal 3 of Sukarno Hada International Airport when they returned to Indonesia from Honolulu, the United States, on the evening of the 24th. The reason is “suspected of corruption in issuing export licenses for lobster seedlings”. At present, Eddie is being questioned in KPK.
Earlier this year, Eddie lifted the ban on the export of lobster seedlings issued by former Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Susie.
In July, Eddie issued export licenses for lobster seedlings to 26 companies. At the issuing site, Eddie said that allowing the export of lobster seedlings was intended to increase the income of fishermen, who had been dependent on lobster fishing for a living. He said that he would increase the number of companies licensed to export lobster seedlings to 31.
At that time, after a media investigation, it was alleged that there were illegal frauds in the application of lobster seedling export licenses, which Eddie denied on the spot.
