India decided to purchase about $3.8 billion in weapons and equipment.

December 17th, the Indian Ministry of Defense decided to procure weapons and equipment worth Rs 280 billion (about $3.8 billion) for the country’s army, navy and air forces.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the meeting of the Defense Procurement Committee on the same day and made this decision.

The Indian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that of this amount, 270 billion rupees (about $3.67 billion) will be used to purchase weapons and equipment produced by the country’s industrial sector, aiming to promote the government’s “Made in India” and “self-reliance” initiatives.

It is reported that the weapons include six air early warning and control systems of the Air Force, 11 new generation patrol boats and 38 extended-range Bramos supersonic cruise missiles of the Navy, and 40 new modular bridge systems of the Army.
