Impeachment proceedings may not begin before Trump leaves office

The U.S. House of Representatives will meet at 9:00 a.m. that day to vote on the bill to impeach President Trump.

According to the U.S. Constitution, if the impeachment clause against the president is passed by a simple majority in the House of Representatives, it means that the president is impeached.

The Senate will then hear impeachment, and if two-thirds of the senators support the impeachment clause, the president will be convicted and stepped down.

The New York Times pointed out that with less than 10 days to go before Trump’s official departure, the impeachment proceedings may not start before his departure.
