May 2 2021, Hundreds of refugees landed on the southern Italian island of Lampedusa from April 30 to May 1, the Italian coast guard said, citing Euronews.

The first five boats to arrive reportedly carried a total of 532 refugees, including a large number of women and minors.

On 1 May, two more boats landed on lampedusa, carrying a total of 151 refugees.

In addition, on 27 April, the NGO SOS Mediterranean “Ocean Viking” rescue ship also rescued 236 refugees, and the German NGO rescue ship “Sea Watch 4” also rescued 214 people from Mediterranean waters and sent them to lampedusa.

Mr. Penard, director of operations at SOS in the Mediterranean, said it was shocking that there were a large number of minors among the refugees, 114 of whom were unaccompanied. Refugees landing on Lampedusa have been sent to overcrowded reception centres after initial inspections at the pier.

Reported that Lampedusa is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, located in Italy’s southernmost tip, 205 kilometers from Sicily, but only 113 kilometers from the Tunisian coast of North Africa. At present, Lampedusa has become a transit point for a large number of illegal African immigrants into Europe, once again becoming a concentration of refugees in Europe.
