Huawei started to get rid of Google’s Android system on smartphones

Huawei has released emui 11 and will soon update similar products in all countries such as Huawei P40, P40-Pro and mate30pro.

In addition to similar domestic products, there are some important changes in the stable EMUI 11 of Huawei P40, P40 Pro, P40 Pro Plus and Mate 30 Pro devices abroad.

It is expected that later this year, Hongmeng OS, its own operating system, will be tested on smartphones, and in 2021, Huawei smartphone owners will be able to switch to the smartphone after receiving the corresponding update.

In the latest EMUI 11, enthusiasts have found signs that Huawei is preparing to move from Android to HarmonyOS. One proof is that the words “powered by android” were changed on the initial boot screen.

Previously, the custom Android brand font was used next to the Android logo. Now, the text is displayed without a logo, and a different font is used. The picture below shows the label differences between Huawei P40 Pro and EMUI 11 and EMUI 10.1.

Next, emui11 also changed the way that the security patch level is displayed in the “About” section of the phone. This page is now marked as only security patch level, which used to be “Android security patch level”. But as we all know, it is impossible to completely exclude Android in Huawei devices, but “partial” is a term suitable for this situation.

The Huawei P40 and Mate30 series are the first devices released on pure Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and do not have Google Mobile Services (GMS) pre-installed. However, these devices still run emui10 based on aosp android 10.

EMUI 10 is based on the same distributed technology as HarmonyOS. With the help of EMUI 11, Huawei has further strengthened the distributed technology on EMUI 11 and supporting devices, and narrowed the distance between the two software ecosystems.

On the other hand, we noticed that the recently launched Huawei Mate 40 series is pre-installed with Emi11, but retains the old “Powered by Android” logo. However, Huawei Mate40 series and the upcoming P50 may get the first seats in the HarmonyOS smartphone beta.

There is no conclusion yet, and the above evaluation may be just a piece of cake, but when Huawei starts testing HarmonyOS on smartphones, we need to wait further to get the final answer.
