February 22 According to AFP, Indonesian officials said on the 21st that there was a severe flood in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, killing five people. Local residents have now returned to their homes to clean up and rescue property.

Over the weekend, Jakarta was hit by heavy rains, flooding dozens of main roads and forcing hundreds of people to go to emergency shelters.

On the 20th, a 67-year-old man was trapped in a flooded house and was found dead, said Kurnianto, the head of the Jakarta Disaster Reduction Agency. Three other boys died after being washed away by the flood, and one girl drowned.

Cournanto also said that although many residents have begun to return home, about 1,700 people remain in shelters.

Floods reportedly hit 200 communities in Jakarta, 40 of which were still submerged at least 30 centimeters on the 21st.

Indonesia’s meteorological department warned that the Jakarta region may experience stronger heavy rains next week.
