G7 leaders support the Tokyo Olympics this summer, Yoshihide Suga said it was encouraging

February 19, local time, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) held a video conference. 

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the leaders of the Group of Seven countries expressed their support for hosting the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga called this support “encouraging.”

According to a report from the Japan Jiji News Agency on the 20th, in a video conference on the 19th, Yoshihide Suga called the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics “symbols of mankind’s victory over Coronavirus” and requested the support of leaders of all countries. 

In a statement after the meeting, the leaders of the participating countries expressed their support for Japan to host the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in a safe and reassuring manner this summer.

In response, Yoshihide Suga said in an interview after the meeting that the support of leaders of the participating countries was “encouraging.”

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare officially approved Coronavirus vaccine produced by the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer on February 14, which is the first vaccine approved in Japan. 

The Japanese government has launched Coronavirus vaccination program on the 17th, and it is expected that the first batch of 40,000 medical staff will be vaccinated.

Kyodo News Agency of Japan reported that Coronavirus vaccine will be vital to the smooth holding of the Tokyo Olympics.
