French government confirms that it will start levying a digital service tax from December 2020

The French Ministry of Economy confirmed on November 25 that it will officially start to levy digital service taxes on large multinational Internet companies from December 2020.

Sources said that many US digital giants, including Amazon and Facebook, have received notices for the first payment of the tax. According to earlier reports

US government stated in July this year that it intends to impose a 25% tariff on French goods worth 1.3 billion US dollars, including cosmetics and handbags, as a counterattack to France’s previously announced “digital tax”. Previously, the current US President Trump also raised the import tariff on French wine to 25%.

In July 2019, the French government decided to levy a 3% digital service tax on some large multinational Internet companies, involving many American Internet giants including Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, etc. This move caused dissatisfaction in the United States.
