April 7th, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retnor said that Britain supported ASEAN in exploring a solution to the Myanmar crisis.

According to Reuters, Retnor held talks with British Foreign Minister Raab, who visited Indonesia on the 7th. Retnor stressed that Britain supported ASEAN in exploring solutions to the Myanmar crisis.

Reuters pointed out that Indonesia is one of the main countries that promote high-level talks between ASEAN leaders on Myanmar.

According to Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao on the 7th, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhiddin and Brunei Sultan Hassanal issued a joint statement after a meeting on the 5th, saying that their ministers and senior officials have been required to make the necessary preparations for “convening a meeting of the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia”.

They believe that ASEAN leaders need to meet to “discuss the current developments in Myanmar”. As for when the meeting will be held, it is not disclosed.

Multiple reports pointed out that ASEAN countries have long refrained from commenting on domestic issues of member states.

However, after the sudden change of political situation in Myanmar and turned into a crisis on February 1, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore have expressed shock at the military’s military’s military force and expressed support for ASEAN to hold a high-level meeting to discuss Myanmar.
