April 7th Facebook, a social media platform in the United States, was exposed that the data of more than 530 million users had been leaked, causing concern. Facebook said on the 6th that hackers “grabbed” personal information from more than 500 million users in 2019, using a tool designed to facilitate people to find friends from the contact list.

According to previous media reports, a hacker forum recently exposed the personal data of more than 530 million Facebook users, which involve 106 countries and regions. The leaked information includes the user’s account name, birthday and email address on Facebook. In response, Facebook explained the reason for the matter and called on people to be vigilant about privacy settings.

Mike Clark, director of Facebook product management, said: “It is important for malicious actors to obtain this data not through hacking into Facebook, but by grabbing it on Facebook platform by September 2019. According to the introduction, “grabbing” refers to a technology that uses automatic software to collect information publicly shared on the network.

“This is another example of the ongoing and hostile relationship between tech industry and scammers who deliberately breached platform policies to grab web services,” Clark said. According to Facebook, the leaked data does not include the user’s password or financial information.
