EU negotiator: The next few days are the key to the Brexit negotiations.

December 14th, Barnier, the chief negotiator of the EU in charge of Brexit, said on social media that if the EU and the United Kingdom reach an agreement by January 1, 2021, the next few days will be the key, and the issue of fair competition and fisheries is the key to reaching an agreement between the two sides.

He said, “Europe and Britain have the responsibility to make the negotiations as successful as possible.”

On the same day, the EU-UK negotiating team continued negotiations in Brussels on a future relationship with a trade agreement at its core. According to the previous Brexit agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom will end the “Brexit” transition period at the end of this month.

If Europe and Britain do not reach a trade agreement during the transition period, the trade between the two sides will return to the WTO framework from 2021 and resume border inspection and tariffs.
