On November 28, AFP quoted local government and aid workers as saying that the Ethiopian government attacked Meklai, the capital of the Tigray region, with heavy artillery.

According to media reports, the Ethiopian government issued a 72-hour “ultimatum” to the “Tigre People’s Liberation Front” that controls Tigray on Sunday, and deployed a large number of tanks and artillery around the state’s capital, Merclay.

The “ultimatum” will expire on the 25th, while the “Tigray People’s Liberation Front” said it would “d rather die than surrender and fight to the end” and said that it had “defeated” a government army force before.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the “Tigray People’s Liberation Front” is the core political party of the former ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front, and once actually controlled the Ethiopian regime.

Abi became Prime Minister in April 2018 and formally established the new ruling party, the Ethiopian Prosperity Party, in December 2019, excluding the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. Since then, the contradiction between the two parties has intensified.
