The Transitional Government of Tigray State of Ethiopia announced on December 2nd local time that the administrators had arrived in Tigray State one after another and began to restore normal life order there. The federal government of Ethiopia has also sent federal police to Merclay. According to the Ethiopian telecommunications department, some communication transmission has been resumed in several towns in the western and southern Tigray state.

According to the Ethiopian News Agency on December 3, calm has been restored in the city of Merkle, the capital of Tigray region. Local residents said that the Ethiopian National Defence Force did not hurt civilians when entering the city, and they were willing to cooperate with the Transitional Government to work for peace and development.

In addition, the United Nations announced on December 2 that it had reached an agreement with the Ethiopian government to allow humanitarian supplies to “unimpeded, continuously and safely enter and outside” the Tigray area for assistance.

According to United Nations estimates, about 2 million people in and around Tigray are currently in need of assistance, and about 1 million people have been displaced by armed conflict, of which more than 45,000 have fled across the border to the Sudan.

Since the armed conflict in the area on 4 November, all supplies have not been allowed to enter the area, and the UNHCR said on 30 November that some 96,000 Eritrean refugees living in refugee camps in the Tigray area have faced a crisis of running out of food.
