England’s chief medical officer: Britain has passed the peak of the second round of the pandemic.

February 3rd local time, at the regular pandemic press conference, Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer of England, said that although the current coronavirus infection rate is “still alarmingly high”, the UK has passed the peak of the second round of the pandemic.

Whitty said that most of his colleagues held the view that “it doesn’t mean that there will be no more peak, but at this stage, as long as people continue to follow the social rules of pandemic prevention, the number of new cases, hospitalizations and deaths in four parts of the UK will decline.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said at the press conference that despite “signs of hope”, the infection rate of the novel coronavirus is still high, so he will not consider relaxing the pandemic.
