Dozens of tankers caught fire at a port in Herat province, Afghanistan, on the afternoon of the 13th, injuring dozens.

The fire occurred at the Islamabad port adjacent to Iran. TV pictures show that thick smoke billowed and the fire was shining.

Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the governor of Herat Province, said that the cause of the fire was not clear for the time being, and the Iranian government had been requested to assist in the fire fighting through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Yunus Qazi Zada, director of the Herat Chamber of Commerce, told AFP: “There are 200 to 300 tankers there, and we managed to withdraw some, but most of them were swallowed up by fire.

The fire was so big that it was inaccessible a kilometer.

Zada said the initial estimate that fire damage would be millions of dollars.

The state-owned DABS Energy Company of Afghanistan said that the fire caused power outages in about 60% of Herat Province.

The Herat provincial health department said that 17 injured have been taken to hospital, and the number of injuries may increase.

At least 60 people were injured, according to a source quoted by Reuters.

Islamabad Port is one of the main ports in Afghanistan.

Most of Afghanistan’s trade with Iran enters and exits through this port.
