According to local media reports on December 13, police in the northern Albanian city of Shkotra filed charges against 46 individuals suspected of organizing and participating in radical protests.

On 12th, some demonstrators launched an attack on the branch of the Albanian ruling party in Shkoder, causing incidents of arson and destruction of office facilities. Among them, 8 people were suspected of organizing illegal protests.

It is worth noting that the mayor of Shkadar was also listed; another 17 minors were suspected of damaging utensils; the remaining 21 were suspected of participating in illegal assemblies.

According to reports, on December 12, incidents of demonstrators attacking relevant institutions also occurred in at least four other cities including Tirana and Duras. Especially in the capital Tirana, both the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Interior were under siege.

The cause of the incident was that in the early morning of December 8th, an armed policeman shot and killed a 25-year-old man who violated the curfew regulations. A large-scale protest was triggered that night.

Although the armed police were arrested for over-defense and the Albanian Interior Minister also took the blame and resigned, the situation did not calm down.

The Albanian opposition party demanded that the ruling party should step down to apologize to the families of the deceased and protesters.
