May 5 2021, Danish Radio and Television (DR) reported that residents of some Danish islands could be vaccinated earlier than planned. The National Health Board has approved that people on small islands do not have to comply with the rules currently applicable to all Danes. For people in the island’s area, Coronavirus vaccine is available regardless of age.
In response, Danish badminton player Anselon said that since islanders can have priority, so should athletes participating in the Olympic Games. He stressed that, of course, athletes participating in the Olympic Games must not be at the expense of the elderly, vulnerable groups or front-line employees.
Last week, Health Minister Magnus Hojnik said Danish athletes would not have priority in vaccinations.
Danish badminton player Anselon tested positive for nucleic acid during the European Championships in Ukraine last week and had to withdraw from the men’s singles final on May 2. Despite only mild symptoms during the hotel quarantine, he decided to arrange, at his own expense, a private air ambulance with the highest safety and medical standards to fly directly from Kiev, Ukraine, to Copenhagen, Denmark, in order to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics without a hitch.
