November 25th – Due to the rising death toll from COVID-19, the burial space of the largest Muslim cemetery in the Indian capital New Delhi is about to be exhausted.

According to New Delhi TV on November 24, the cemetery manager Fayazudin said, “The government should have some arrangements for the deaths of COVID-19 to be buried in the cemetery near them because of the limited space here.”

He said that the cemetery management committee will write to the New Delhi government for help to ensure that COVID-19 deaths from other regions will not be transferred to the cemetery.

In addition to receiving the city’s dead, the cemetery must reportedly provide burial space for COVID-19 deaths from several neighboring cities, such as Noida, Ghaziabad and Mirut. Fayazudin said that if the current burial rate continues, there will be no room for burial in the cemetery for about two months.

Fayazudin said, “We have received the remains of about 4-5 COVID-19 deaths these days. In September, 67 people died of COVID-19 were buried here, and a total of 57 people were buried here in October and November.”

It is reported that the number of COVID-19 cases in New Delhi, India, has continued to increase recently, with about 7,500 new confirmed cases every day. According to the report on November 23, New Delhi reported 121 new deaths from COVID-19 in a single day.

The cumulative death toll of COVID-19 in this area has exceeded 8,300.
