Due to the surge in confirmed cases of COVID-19, the Malawi government announced that it would close its borders for two weeks from the 23rd local time.

Malawi’s Minister of Information pointed out at a press conference that only Malawians repatriated by other countries can enter the country during the closure of the border. Moreover, the limit of gatherings of no more than 100 people will be strictly enforced in Malawi.

On the 21st, local time, Malawi had 38 imported cases and 3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 at home.

On the 22nd, the number of new confirmed cases reached 46, all imported cases from Malawians who returned from South Africa.
