Colombian media reported on February 1 that the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of Colombia showed that the national average unemployment rate in Colombia reached 15.9% in 2020, the highest level in the past 14 years.

Among them, the average unemployment rate in major cities rose from 11.2% in 2019 to 18% in 2020.

According to the report, as of the end of December 2020, the number of registered unemployed people in Colombia reached 3.7 million nationwide, of which the industries with more unemployed people concentrated in the fields of trade, car maintenance, leisure and entertainment, public administration and education.

Colombia’s National Trade Union Organization said that in view of the continuous spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, the differentiated isolation and epidemic prevention measures implemented in various places have different degrees of impact on the restarting the economy.

The government should try its best to provide the minimum living security for the unemployed, and help small and medium-sized enterprises to maintain their operations to avoid being caused by the closure of enterprises.

The number of unemployed people has further increased.
