Chilean lawmakers submitted a bill to Congress on Tuesday that would require nationals to be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

Chile’s existing health law has required nationals to be immunized against smallpox, whooping cough and other vaccines, and the new bill will modify the scope of vaccination.

Chile is the first country in South America to launch a COVID-19 vaccination program.
