According to the Capitol Hill newspaper on the 2nd, Prince Harry of the United Kingdom has been criticized for linking the coronavirus pandemic with nature’s punishment of human beings. Earlier this year, Prince Harry and his wife Megan moved to the United States from England.
“Just in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s like Mother Nature shut us up in our room because we do bad things,” Prince Harry told WaterBear Network, a new Dutch streaming platform focused on climate and conservation documentaries. So that we can take a moment to think about what we have done.
“It’s been a tough year for everyone,” he said in an interview. He continued, “This undoubtedly reminds me, and may remind us all that we [human beings] are closely related to nature. We have taken so much from her, and we rarely give back anything.”
Prince Harry’s remarks were quickly reprinted by many conservative media in the UK and attracted a lot of criticism on the Internet. Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan blames Prince Harry for this “hypocrisy”. On the show, Morgan said that Prince Harry “uses private planes like a taxi” and that he may have “16 bathrooms” in his mansion in California.
Prince Harry said in an interview, “Every drop of rain falling from the sky is alleviating the thirsty land. What if we were raindrops each and if we each care (nature)?” In response, Morgan retorted, “Do the raindrops you want to do!” You must match your words with your deeds.”
Prince Harry also pointed out that nature is the “source of life” and his love for the environment is partly due to having children last year. He said, “The moment you became a father, everything really changed, because then you began to realize that when a new life came to this world, when they reached your age, the world caught fire, so what’s the point of bringing them into this world? We can’t steal their future. We really can’t do this. This is not the job we are looking for.”
