After studying the fossils of animal leg bones excavated in 2017, Brazilian archaeologists recently announced that they had unearthed a dinosaur fossil 230 million years ago.

Because the skeleton of this dinosaur is red, it was excavated from the Yakui River Basin in the Southern River State of Brazil, so it was named Yakui Chiliesaurus. This is the fourth dinosaur fossil excavated in the region from different prehistoric periods.

This discovery by Brazilian archaeologists is published in the latest issue of the South American Geosciences magazine.

Yakui Chilisaurus belongs to one of the earliest theropod dinosaurs, which is believed to be the ancestors of Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor in the Cretaceous. Adult Chiliesaurus was about 2 meters long and weighed about 9 kilograms.

Archaeologists have suggested that although Chiliesaurus was smaller than other later dinosaurs, it retained a developed muscle embedded structure on its femur, so it can be concluded that the dinosaur was an “agile predator”.
