January 19th – Bloomberg and Russian Satellite News Agency reported that the transition team of U.S. President-elect Biden asked John Sullivan, the ambassador to Russia, to remain in office temporarily after the new government came to power until a suitable replacement was found.
According to the report, like Sullivan, several other officials appointed by Trump were also required to stay in office.
The report also said that the U.S. government often changes ambassadors to other countries after the new government takes office, and many U.S. ambassadors abroad are ready to leave.
