According to the Guardian on the 23rd, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Wednesday that tourists from the United Kingdom will now face mandatory quarantine orders.

De Blasio said that New York City sheriffs will be sent to hotel rooms or homes where all people arriving in New York from the United Kingdom will live to ensure that they comply with the two-week coronavirus quarantine order.

The report pointed out that de Blasio’s decision came after scientists discovered a more infectious variant of the novel coronavirus in Britain.

“We cannot let any visitor put the risk of infecting others, especially those from the UK,” de Blasio said. The mayor of New York City explained that anyone who arrives in New York, no matter where they come from, must complete the form, including contact information and residence. These passengers will then receive the quarantine order through registered mail. He said passengers who did not comply with the quarantine requirements would face a fine of $1,000 a day.

“We don’t want to punish people. Everyone has gone through hell this year.” “We don’t want to do that, but if you don’t comply with quarantine measures, it’s going to endanger others in the city while we’re fighting a second wave of the pandemic,” de Blasio said.

New York Gov. Cuomo said Tuesday he has contacted airlines that have flights from the UK to New York State — British Airways, Virgin Airways and Delta Air Lines, which have agreed to test passengers for the virus before boarding them.
