Bach: Strive for athletes to be vaccinated against Covid-19 before participating in Tokyo Olympics

November 16- International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Bach held talks with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike in Tokyo on the 16th.

According to a report from Japan’s Sankei Shimbun on the 16th, in order to ensure that the Tokyo Olympics will be held as scheduled after the postponement due to the epidemic, the two sides confirmed that they will jointly prepare. Bach said that if Coronavirus vaccine is developed before the Olympics, more foreign players will be vaccinated before going to Japan.

Japanese media pointed out that this is Bach’s first visit to Japan after the Tokyo Olympics has been postponed. On the same day, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga also held talks with Bach at the official residence. 

The two sides reached a consensus on their determination to safely host the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will be postponed to next summer due to Coronavirus pandemic, and agreed to work closely together to achieve this goal.

Yoshihide Suga said: “It is envisaged that audiences will participate, and various discussions are going on.” Bach said that he will work hard to ensure vaccines for players and related personnel in Japan.

According to reports, Bach will stay in Japan until the 18th. Later on the 16th, he will also hold a joint press conference with the chairman of the Japanese Olympic Organizing Committee Yoshiro Mori. 

On the 17th, he plans to visit the Olympic Village and the National Arena
