February 15th – Kinshasa News: The municipal government of Lubumbashi, Upper Katanga Province, southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, released a message on the 14th that two local government barracks were attacked by an unknown number of armed elements that day, killing 11 people and injuring several others.

Sources said that in the exchange of fire between government forces and the attackers, 4 government soldiers and 1 civilian were killed and several injured; 6 attackers were killed and 11 others were captured.

At present, the local military police are searching for the attackers hiding in the city of Lubumbashi.

The Lubumbashi municipal government did not disclose the specific identity of the attacker.

The Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo issued an announcement on the attack on the 14th, reminding local Chinese-funded institutions and Chinese citizens to raise security awareness, strengthen security measures, and eliminate all unnecessary travel.

Local public opinion generally believes that the attackers came from the split Katanga militia, which has always intended to separate parts of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, including Haute Katanga Province, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
