According to Forbes magazine, on January 7 local time, after riots in the U.S. Congress, at least five officials in the Trump administration resigned.

According to CNN, people familiar with the matter confirmed that Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger resigned on the afternoon of January 6th local time, which was related to the riots caused by Trump supporters.

Pottinger has said that there is little to consider.

On the evening of January 6th local time, Mick Mulvaney, the former White House Chief of Staff and later the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland, also resigned.

“After the Congressional riots, I couldn’t stay,” he said in an interview with CNBC.

According to CNN, Stephanie Grisham, the Chief of Staff of First Lady Melania, and Anna Nista, White House Social Secretary, have submitted their resignations earlier in the day, which will take effect immediately.

Grisham and Nista are among the longest-serving officials in the Trump administration. Grisham said in a statement that “it is my honor to work in the White House and serve the country.”

Subsequently, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews also applied for resignation.

In the statement, she said she was honored to serve in the Trump administration, but “I am deeply disturbed by what I see today.” She added, “Our country needs a peaceful transfer of power”.

White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Chris Liddell are also considering resigning, Forbes magazine reported.

On January 6th local time, O’Brien rarely defended Pence, calling Pence a really good man, and he showed courage when he was scolded by Trump.

According to NBC, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Xiaolan Zhao and the wife of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell are also considering resigning.

She has always supported the election results and opposed Trump’s conspiracy theories.

The Wall Street Journal pointed out that the congressional riot shocked officials in Trump’s inner circle, and officials’ dissatisfaction with Trump’s fierce remarks began to surface.
