April 6 The Sudan Office of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on the evening of the 5th that the recent violent attack in the El Geneina region, the capital of Western Darfur, Sudan, has killed at least 40 people and injured 58.

The Sudan Office of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement that since April 3, the clashes between the local Massalit and Arab tribes have killed at least 40 people and injured 58.

At present, the situation in El Geneina is “still very tense”, and gunfire can still be heard as of the afternoon of the 5th local time. The coordination of United Nations humanitarian affairs in the El Geneina area has been suspended.

On the evening of the 5th, the Sudan Security and Defense Commission declared a state of emergency in Western Darfur and authorized regular forces to take all necessary measures to end the armed conflict in the region.

The Darfur region is located in western Sudan, bordering Libya, Chad and Central Africa.

Since February 2003, armed conflicts between government forces, local anti-government forces and different tribes have continued to break out, and the regional situation has continued to be volatile, and millions of people have been displaced.

In January this year, there were also violent attacks in the El Geneina area, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries.
