An outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes in multiple states in the U.S. causes deaths or cooked meat

October 25. Recently, an outbreak of Listeria infection in the United States has caused 10 people to get sick and 1 person died in 3 states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that cooked meat may be the source of disease.

According to CNN and other media reports, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning on the 23rd local time that the Listeria outbreak has caused 10 people in Florida, Massachusetts, and New York to visit the hospital, and one in Florida.

The patient died. The agency said that cooked meat may be the source of the Listeria outbreak. Although the CDC has not yet pointed out which meat or supplier, nine victims said they had eaten Italian-style meat products, such as salami.

It is reported that most of the listeria infections are women. Although most people are unlikely to get severely ill due to Listeria infection, people over 65 years of age with weakened immune systems and pregnant women are at higher risk. 

Listeria is especially dangerous for pregnant women. Infections during pregnancy can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, etc. Symptoms of infection usually begin one to four weeks after eating contaminated food and may include fever, muscle aches, headaches, confusion and loss of balance.

The US Centers for Disease Control recommends that people at high risk of infection avoid eating cooked food unless it is thoroughly heated first. The agency also recommends storing meat in the refrigerator away from other foods. Currently, the investigation into this outbreak of Listeria infection is still ongoing.
