February 4th – On the 2nd local time, the government of Assam, India, held an event in which suspected large-scale food poisoning had resulted in one death and more than 140 people, including children, hospitalization.
According to India Today, after eating the packaged food provided at the event, at least 145 people showed symptoms of suspected food poisoning, stomach pain and vomiting, and were immediately sent to the local hospital.
One person died in the hospital on the evening of the 2nd.
Assam Chief Minister Sabanand Sonovar and Health Minister Salma also attended the event.
“At present, 28 patients have been discharged and 117 patients are still being treated in the hospital,” Salma said.
The local government has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
