A Turkish ship was hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea

ANKARA, Jan. 24 – A Turkish ship was attacked and hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea on January 23, and one Azerbaijani crew member among the 19 on board was killed, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency on January 24.

The report said that the attacked ship belongs to the Istanbul-based Boden company.

A statement issued by the company said that the hijacked ship named “Mozart”, was scheduled to travel from the Nigerian port city of Lagos to Cape Town, South Africa, and was attacked by pirates and hijacked in the Gulf of Guinea.

According to reports, the Turkish Foreign Ministry has been in contact with the people on board, the ship is heading to Gabon.

Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that the necessary action will be taken to rescue the crew as soon as possible.
