A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Canada responded: On February 15, Canada coaxed some countries to issue the so-called declaration against “arbitrary detention” and deliberately arranged for relevant personnel to falsely claim that China “arbitrarily detained” Canadian citizens Kang Mingkai and Michael at the launching ceremony of the Declaration, which is completely confusing and different
China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this, and has made solemn representations to Canada.
The spokesman said that it is well known that the Meng Wanzhou incident is a complete political event.
The Canadian side has detained Ms. Meng for more than two years without violating any Canadian law. This is absolutely arbitrary detention! It is a gross violation of the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens! The international community and people of insight in Canada can see this clearly.
On the one hand, Canada flaunts that it “adhering to the rule of law” and “opposing arbitrary detention”, on the other hand, it acts as an accomplice to the United States to arbitrarily detain Chinese citizens, in an attempt to use Meng Wanzhou as a bargaining chip for the United States to suppress Chinese enterprises.
How hypocritical and mean this kind of thief’s behavior of shouting to catch thieves is!
The spokesman stressed again that China is a country under the rule of law. Kang Mingkai and Michael, Canadian citizens, were arrested and prosecuted according to law on suspicion of crimes against China’s national security.
China’s judicial organs handle cases independently in strict accordance with the law, fully guaranteeing the legal rights of the two. Canada’s attempt to engage in “microphone diplomacy” and gang up internationally to put pressure on China is completely futile, and can only be a dead end.
China once again urges Canada to seriously reflect on mistakes, immediately release Ms. Meng Wanzhou and ensure her safe return to China, and stop creating new obstacles to Sino-Canada relations in any way.
