According to India’s New Delhi Television (NDTV), Indian farmers’ protests have entered their 21st day. Baba Ram Singh, 65, of Haryana, participated in the protests on the evening of the 15th, and on the 16th. He shot himself near a station in New Delhi.

In the handwritten suicide note found near Ram’s body, Ram said that he felt sad after seeing the plight of the peasants and the oppression of the government. “I have witnessed the plight of the farmers, they are fighting for their rights.

I am sad to see that the government has not given them justice. This is a crime. In order to support the farmers, I decided to sacrifice myself.”

Local police officer Shiyam Lal Ponia said that Ram shot himself in the car. After he was rushed to the hospital, the doctor announced that he was dead. Ram’s followers stated that the funeral will be held on the 18th. 

Rahul Gandhi, Chairman of the Indian National Congress Party, and Alvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, expressed condolences for Ram’s death.

Farmer protests in India broke out on November 26 and continue to this day. The protest is related to the three agricultural laws passed by the Modi government this year. 

Farmers from important agricultural provinces such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and other important agricultural provinces took part in the protest, which reached hundreds of thousands of people.
